A WEST Yorkshire MP has paid a visit to Oxfam's Northern Logistics Centre in Batley.

Kim Leadbeater, Labour MP for Batley and Spen, toured the building on Thursday and spoke to staff.

Every week, the centre receives 1,000 bags of publicly donated second-hand clothes and books.

The centre helps find new homes for these items via Oxfam shops across the country and online.

Ms Leadbeater's late sister, Jo Cox, worked for Oxfam GB and Oxfam International in a variety of roles between 2001 and 2009.

Ms Leadbeater said: "It was fantastic to visit Oxfam's distribution hub in Batley.

"With over 100,000 square feet of pre-loved, second-hand and donated goods, the centre puts Batley on the map."

Andy Ostcliffe, Oxfam's head of e-commerce and retail innovation, said: "It was a pleasure to welcome Kim to Batley to overview our operations."
