A YOUNG man has been jailed after he assaulted a police officer when drunk on a train.
Lakardi Zakaryia, of River Terrace in Leverington, Cambridgeshire, was travelling on a service from Manchester to Leeds, which runs through Bradford, on Saturday (February 3).
A court heard how, after boarding the service at Manchester, when a member of the train crew asked to see his ticket, the 21-year-old became very aggressive and swore at her.
Zakaryia then directed the same actions to a second member of staff.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers attended Rochdale Station and removed him from the service.
Officers clearly observed Zakaryia to be under the influence of alcohol.
It was when being removed that he assaulted a police officer which left minor injuries.
Zakaryia pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison at Ashton Under Lyne Magistrate’s court on Monday, February 5.
