THE fire service had to issue a warning to residents after asbestos was discovered in the roof of burning derelict barn.
Resident were advised to keep their doors and windows shut following atter a fire was reported at 4.23pm yesterday (Saturday) at a derelict barn in Miry Lane, Liversedge.
A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews made three pumps on arrival at a fire involving a derelict barn measuring 20m x 5m which was 80 per cent involved. Asbestos sheet roofing was also involved. Two large jets and one hose reel used."
The fire service also issued the following warning to residents.
It said: "We are in attendance at a building fire in Miry Lane, Hightown, Liversedge.
"Residents are being asked to keep doors and windows shut due to possible toxicity in the smoke in the air."
Cleckheaton, Dewsbury and Mirfield fire stations were all in attendance at the scene.
