INVESTIGATIONS are taking place after a person died in a house fire last night.
Firefighters were called to the blaze on Hillhead Drive, Batley, at around 11.30pm.
Crews from Cleckheaton and Dewsbury attended the incident and extinguished the fire.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) has confirmed a person died at the scene.
It is not yet known what caused the fire but investigations are today taking place at the property.
Fire service statement in full
A WYFRS spokesperson said: "We were called last night at 11.31pm to Hillhead Drive in Batley to reports of a house fire.
"We sent two crews from Dewsbury, and one from Cleckheaton.
"Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the blaze.
"Sadly one person died at the scene and our fire investigation teams are at the address today to try and determine the source of the fire."
