A CANDLELIGHT vigil held in protest to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza took place outside City Hall in Bradford last night.
The vigil, which was attended by 50 people from the Health Workers 4 Palestine group, was organised by Shabina Sultan, consultant rheumatologist at Airedale Hospital.
The non-partisan group of health care workers, agencies and non-government organisations shared its concerns about the deteriorating health care situation and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Ms Sultan said: “Health care is a human right and we need to stand up for those less fortunate - that is why we took the Hippocratic Oath.
“Our hearts are bleeding and we are in despair. The impact of this humanitarian crisis is affecting our home and work lives profoundly.”
She added: “The vigil was attended by consultants from Airedale and Bradford as well as junior doctors, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, research staff from Bradford University and public health workers and their families.
“The vigil was peaceful time for reflection with a speech from an Imam Shamsuddin Ahmed, who works at Bradford University.
“It was well received and enthusiasm to do more was expressed by attendees.
“We had passers-by stopping and asking questions which was lovely to see.”
