TWO men in balaclavas on a stolen moped dumped the vehicle in "panic" after a police chase.
Officers from West Yorkshire Police's Steerside Enforcement Team - the force's dedicated initiative for tackling anti-social and dangerous driving - were on patrol in the Allerton area of Bradford when they spotted two men in masks riding a blue Peugeot Kisbee.
The team said in a post on its Facebook page today that the men rode off from them when asked to pull over and a pursuit began.
Police were only following them for a short period of time before the rider and passenger dropped the scooter "in a panic" and ran away.
Checks showed the moped had been stolen from the North Yorkshire area in early December.
The Facebook post by the Steerside Team said: "Whilst on patrol in the Allerton West Yorkshire Police - Bradford West area we sighted 2 males wearing balaclavas riding this.
"Surprisingly the rider failed to stop.
"The short pursuit finished with the rider & passenger dropping the bike in a panic & running off.
"Stolen from North Yorkshire Police area in early December."
