Almost £200,000 has been awarded to Kirklees Council for bringing more accessible toilets to two prominent Kirklees parks.
The new, modular Changing Places Toilets will be installed at Huddersfield’s Greenhead Park and Oakwell Hall and Country Park at Birstall, and will include a ceiling-mounted hoist, changing bench, peninsular toilet, height adjustable wash basin, mobile privacy screen and grab rails to support people using the facility.
In partnership with Muscular Dystrophy UK, the government has awarded £192k to the council for the facilities which must be completed by March.
This funding is in addition to the £89,250 that the local authority received last March for Changing Places Toilets in Huddersfield town centre and Slaithwaite.
Councillor Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Finance and Regeneration said: “We have exciting regeneration plans and aspirations for Kirklees of which accessibility is key. Having new Changing Places Toilets are part of the council’s wider review of existing facilities and I hope that the installation of modular Changing Places Toilets at Greenhead Park and Oakwell Hall will attract visitors who may not usually come.”
