The funeral for a Bradford man who tragically died in a crash is taking place today. 

Mason Portman, known to his loved ones under the nicknames MP and Pozzie, died on the morning of Sunday, December 17.

West Yorkshire Police received a report that a black Seat Leon had been found in a ditch near Rishworth, off the A672 Oldham Road, at junction 22 of the M62.

Mason, who was found nearby, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

There has been an outpouring of grief and love for Mason across the district.

Described as someone with “the most infectious smile”, a number of tributes have been left on social media and in the Telegraph & Argus' Book of Condolence. 

Mason's funeral is taking place at 2.15pm at Madni Masjid, Thornbury, before a burial at West Bowling Cemetery around 3pm.

One contributor, named as MC, said: “I fully can’t believe it Pozzi man we had the best of times. You were always there ready to put a smile on everyone's face. My thoughts go out to you and your family. I've lost a true brother. Gone but never ever forgotten.”

Another post said: “Rest in peace Pozzie. Such a kind lad. Always so nice to me even though you was cheeky. So glad you got to meet our little boy and he got to meet you.”

Simone Hill-Hands said: “Life’s so unfair, his whole life ahead of him, his life as a man was just starting it breaks my heart. 

“I send my love and strength to his family at such a sad time and especially at Christmas when families should be together celebrating happy times, RIP Mason keep watching over your loved ones.”

Another said: “Such a shock to everyone last person on this earth I thought it would happen to can’t believe you are gone but you will never be forgotten will miss you so much my boy.”
