THE traditional Boxing Day rugby fixture between Wharfedale and North Ribblesdale will be held this year at The Avenue in Threshfield - and will raise money for two charities close to the hearts of club members.
Wharfedale’s Foresters and Thirds teams will play North Ribblesdale’s Firsts and Seconds in what promises to be two bumper fixtures.
John Sykes, chair of Wharfedale Rugby Union Football Club (WRUFC) said: "The day is extra special this year as it is being used as a charity fundraiser for both the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA).
"Both organisations have a resonating place in Wharfedale RUFC’s thoughts. The late Chris Baker, a former club player, member and official also fulfilled similar roles for the UWFRA team and was active in both organisations for over 70 years until his death earlier this year.
"The Yorkshire Air Ambulance has also played a major part in club members’ lives. In particular, the families of the late Michael Harrison and late Ben Marklew are indebted to its cause as is David Whitfield whose life was saved by the air ambulance’s intervention following a serious accident."
Admission for the day is £5 minimum and free for under 16’s with all proceeds split between the two good causes. Kick off for both games is 2pm with the clubhouse kitchen open before and during the games. Bar opening hours are noon until 6pm.
