A BRADFORD man has been sentenced for his role in a drug conspiracy and dangerous driving incident.

Adam Ahmed, 22, of Cottam Terrace, Lidget Green, was sentenced in Bradford Crown Court for dangerous driving, conspiracy to possess Class A drugs (cocaine) with intent to supply, and conspiracy to possess Class B drugs (cannabis) with intent to supply.

Crown prosecutor Jo Shepherd said the drug charges covered a period between November 1, 2019, to January 2, 2020.

She said on January 1, 2020, police attended the Snooze Hotel in Manningham where they found Ahmed along with two accomplices.

In Ahmed’s possession, police discovered nine bags of cannabis, six packets containing a quantity of cocaine, and five wraps of cannabis.

They also seized two phones containing messages from customers requesting Sniff (cocaine) and other messages of Ahmed offering drugs, which Ms Shepherd said was “consistent with street dealing”.

While he was out on bail, Ms Shepherd said on October 12, 2021, Ahmed was driving a silver Honda Civic on cloned plates when he “made off at speed on Cemetery Road”, leading officers on a police chase on roads in the area.

She said a police officer witnessed Ahmed exceeding 30mph and “increasing his speed, overtaking vehicles on the wrong side of the road and driving through a narrow gap narrowly missing another vehicle”.

He eventually slowed down, got out of the car, ran off, and jumped over a wall into a cemetery where he was located and arrested.

In handing down a sentence to Ahmed, Recorder Andrew Dallas said: “Although you denied being involved in the drugs conspiracy for a long time, phone records showed you were street dealing.

“And while it was fortunate no one was injured in the short chase, trying to evade police is always a serious matter.

“Although the sentence in these circumstances is normally well justified, I’m going to make an exception as you spent from November 26, 2021, to December 13, 2022, on remand in custody and since then you were electronically monitored with a tag for 367 days.”

Recorder Dallas sentenced Ahmed to 16 months for the cocaine charge and said nine-month sentences for the cannabis supply and dangerous driving charges would run concurrently.

However, the prison sentence was suspended for 12 months, with Ahmed ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and undertake a rehabilitation programme.

He was also disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for 12 months, after which he will be required to pass an extended driving licence test.
