A MAN is fighting for his life following a crash on a major Bradford road.
The collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian happened on Great Horton Road at lunchtime on Wednesday, December 13.
A man was taken to hospital in a critical condition, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.
The driver of a black Volkswagen Golf failed to stop at the scene.
Shortly after, a 25-year-old man went to a police station and was arrested in connection with the incident.
A section of Great Horton Road, from Siddique Pharmacy to Mahmoods, was closed in both directions for most of the afternoon.
When the Telegraph & Argus visited the scene, several police officers and paramedics were spotted.
Three First buses and a school bus were left stranded along with other vehicles for hours whilst investigation work took place.
A worker from hamburger restaurant Mahmoods said: "The road is blocked.
"We were in the back cooking when it happened.
"We then came out and saw police and ambulance at the scene.
"We were still able to remain open."
Further up the road, Akbar from GT Butchers said: “I have been too busy in here to go out and see what happened. It’s shocking.
"Every few months there seems to be a crash on this junction."
A neighbouring shopkeeper added: “My customers have been telling me about it. I heard a noise but I was too busy in the shop to go out.”
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision involving a pedestrian in Bradford.
"Officers were called at 12.27pm to Great Horton Road to reports of a vehicle had been in collision with a pedestrian.
"The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
"The driver of the Black VW Golf failed to stop at the scene.
"A short while later a man, aged 25, presented himself at a local police station.
"He was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody at this time.
"The road remains closed whilst enquiries are carried out.
"Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or saw the vehicle prior to the collision to come forward or anyone who may have dash cam footage.
"Information can be given via 101 or the Live Chat facility at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contactus quoting log 649 of December 13."
