THE ambulance service is receiving a high volume of calls today.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) put out the message, saying it would prioritise the most seriously ill and injured patients.
In a post on its Facebook page, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: "Our 999 service is very busy this weekend.
"We always prioritise our most seriously ill or injured patients.
"If you don't need immediate help, try nhs.uk for advice on other NHS services available."
In a post on Saturday, YAS said: "Please keep emergency ambulances for patients with serious or life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
"Www.111.nhs.uk is available for urgent care needs, or use your pharmacy or urgent treatment centre."
Another post added: "Winter illness symptoms such as sore throats and colds can be managed at home.
"Keep warm, rest, drink plenty of fluids, have at least one hot meal a day to keep your energy levels up and use over-the-counter medications to help give relief."
