A BRADFORD chippie is celebrating a year in business with the “cheapest fish and chips” in the country.

Hooked, in Summerville Road, off Great Horton Road officially opened in the first week of December last year and has been a roaring success ever since.

It was set up by brothers Bilal and Iklaq Hafiz, taking over premises they used to love as a fish and chip shop when they were youngsters.

The Telegraph & Argus visited Hooked in February this year after it received a five-star hygiene rating and the chippie has gone from strength to strength since.

Bilal said: “Business has been fantastic and growing we have good regular trade and new customers all the time who have been recommended.

“We have a fantastic Google and Just Eat rating.”

Hooked will be offering fish and chips for £2.99 on Saturday to say thank you to those who have supported the business.

When asked if this could be the cheapest fish and chip supper in the country, Bilal said: “With the current prices of fish and chips, this will be the cheapest fish and chips meal this weekend, so grab yourselves a bargain, treat the families.”

He added: “We wanted to offer this deal to our customers because it’s been a tough year with the cost of living and still people have been supporting us, so we thought we will give something back.

“Also people who haven’t tried us yet, it’s a good opportunity to check us out.”

The brothers have lived across the road from the premises all their life and Iklaq remembers an old lady running it as a fish and chip shop 25 years ago, before it closed.

He said back in February: "It changed hands multiple times over the years.

“It was a chicken shop for a while, then another shop for the last 10 years and now it's back to a chippy.”

Bilal revealed there have been challenges over the past year but the duo have worked hard to give their customers the best value.

He said: “There have been many challenges with the cost of living, less people eating out, but we have managed to source good suppliers to keep our prices down, so customers can enjoy a takeout in these challenging times.”

He added: “The public have received the business well our reviews and general customer feedback and returning customers speak volumes.”

Hooked is also running a deal on Sunday – three 12-inch pizzas for £9.99 – exemplifying the variety of options the takeaway has outside the traditional offering, which is something that is only set to grow.

Bilal said: “In the New Year we will be adding to our menu new items, so something for customers to look forward to.”
