THE 1st Spen Valley (St Paul’s) Scout Group celebrates its 100th birthday next year - and a new book explores its history.
It all started for author Alan Holmes when he joined 1st Spen Valley Scout Group in 1953 as a Wolf Cub. He’s been associated with the group (pictured) ever since. Alan’s book, which contains anecdotes and stories, is a potted history of Scouting in Birkenshaw from 1924-2024. It will, he says, bring back happy memories.
The Scout Group has a full diary planned for its 100th anniversary in 2024. Says Alan: “Over 100 years, it is a credit to any group achieving this status. I’m especially proud to have been part of the 1st Spen Valley Scout Group in achieving this great accolade.”
