A BAKERY has been "severely affected" after a car dramatically crashed into gas mains.
Drivers were told to avoid Thornton Road as emergency services worked at the scene.
A black Mitsubishi 4x4 crashed into an independent gas governor supplying gas to Nafees Bakery's industrial unit at around 10am.
The unit had to be evacuated and the road was cordoned off, from Hockney Road to Hollings Road, until around 1pm.
Police told people living in the Thornton Road area to close their windows and doors whilst the incident was ongoing.
Nafees Bakery said the incident has "severely affected" the majority of its departments, impacting the business' ability to produce its products.
The firm told the Telegraph & Argus that this would have an impact on its shops and customers.
West Yorkshire Police said the crash was a damage-only collision.
When the road reopened, the force said: "Thornton Road has now reopened and the gas leak has been made safe."
