A baby loss charity has sent a message to bereaved families struggling during festivities this winter.
Sands has a range of support for those facing a surge in grief alongside Christmas and other celebrations like Diwali and Hanukkah.
In addition to a wide range of support services and events, the charity has shared 10 things that help bereaved parents.
The advice includes asking how they are and if they want to talk about their baby; using their baby’s name; asking if there’s anything practical you can do to help such as cooking or caring for other children; inviting them to social events even if there’s a chance they don’t want to come or may cancel; going for a walk, coffee or cinema trip; asking if they would like you to go with them something causing anxiety, such as delivering cards or attending a memorial event; and if it’s ok for you to make a donation to a charity in their baby’s name.
Other tips include telling them you are there for them (and meaning it) and messaging them regularly, even if it’s just saying hello or ‘thinking of you’.
Lights of Love services, and other seasonal events, are held by Sands each year.
Whether it’s listening to readings and music or lighting candles, people of all ages and faiths are welcome.
Sands is also creating a Winter Wishes Sky, where anyone can create a bright online star dedication for a baby or babies.
