A WOMAN has used her personal struggles as inspiration to open a new business in Bradford city centre.

Ruqqayyah Ismail is determined to show people with autism and dyslexia that anything is possible through hard work.

She has opened Roxy's Cosmetics on Kirkgate to serve people visiting the city centre.

"It was a shock to everyone that I opened a business.

"I want to prove to everyone and myself that people with these disabilities can do it if you work hard and believe in yourself."

The shop offers a range of treatments including botox fillers, vitamins, fat dissolving, body sculpting, facials, massages, waxes, and eyelash extensions.

"We opened at the end of October and business has been steady," Ruqqayyah said.

"We have just taken on another member of staff and will have lots of offers on over Christmas."

She has had Vitamin D and Iron deficiency since being a child.

When sourcing medication to treat the conditions, she was found to be allergic to the tablets supplied to her by the NHS.

She added: "The NHS put me on tablets. Unbeknown to them, I was allergic to these and would break out in rashes.

"In 2013, they put me on an Iron infusion IV so in the last three years I have not needed one.

"With the Vitamin D, I was still struggling to get that in injection form.

"One of my friends is a practitioner and she did Vitamin D injections.

"Once she gave me a course of treatment I got better, so I just thought if I can offer this then it would be a good idea to get into this industry."

She added: "My mother also has a fatty liver and I did some research and one of the ultrasonic machines can actually help.

"We started her treatment and her pain has subsided.

"Things like that made me realise it is a good financial opportunity and a way to help people outside of the NHS."

Roxy's Cosmetics can be found at 63 Kirkgate and the beauty salon is open from 12-6pm on Monday-Saturday and 2-6pm on Sunday.
