A Shipley resident has won a competition to name a new retirement complex in the Bradford district.
As work on the luxury apartment complex on Salts Mill Road gets underway, Burghley Retirement Living invited local residents to put their stamp on the town’s history.
Resident Jenni McDonough’s name for the development - inspired by Shipley’s heritage - was chosen.
The over 55s residential community is now officially called Glen Mill House following a ceremony.
In her entry, Jenni said: "As a Shipley resident for over 40 years, I would like to suggest the name Glen Mill for your lovely looking new development. I feel the [name] reflects the industrial heritage of the area, as well as the fantastic countryside…such as Shipley Glen.”
It comes after Ian Ward, Torsion Care development director, and Marie Buckingham, Torsion Care and Burghley Retirement Living director, added the name to the site.
Reacting to the announcement, Jenni said: “I still can’t believe I won. To see the name that I chose go on the building is a really special moment, I am thrilled.”
Once off-plan sales commence in early 2024, the Glen Mill House development will be exclusively for the over 55’s.
The first homeowners are expected to move in during summer 2024.
