THERE was a huge presence from the emergency services near a canal in the Bradford district this morning.

Police officers attended a scene off Buck Mill Lane in Thackley, while firefighters were also seen nearby.

Worried residents shared their concerns on social media. One person said the helicopter and police have been "out in force". 

Another said: "The stretch of towpath is closed from the Dockfield Road end.

"Fire engine there. They wouldn't let me walk my dog along there."

Another person reported they had been told to stay indoors and added: "The helicopter hasn't stopped whirring overhead. Pretty worrying."

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police, said: "Officers are currently in attendance at a canal boat off Buck Mill Lane in Bradford carrying out arrest enquiries. 

"A man’s been arrested on suspicion of making threats to the Police and remains in custody at this time."

A member of public at the scene said police were stopping people coming onto the towpath from Buck Mill Lane earlier this morning.
