A local hairdresser has been honoured at a prestigious national awards ceremony.

Elyse Pointon, of Edward & Co on Bradford Road in Brighouse, gained the Trend Image of the Year gong at the 39th HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards.

Elyse beat competition from five other finalists to win the category, each having submitted a photographic collection demonstrating outstanding technical and creative expertise. 

"I’m so honoured to have won this award," she said.

"To have my work acknowledged by such an esteemed panel of judges means the world to me.

"I’ve never done anything like this so I’m very proud and very grateful.

"I’d like to thank my boss Gary Taylor and the whole Edward & Co team."

The red carpet ceremony took place on Monday (November 27) at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London.

Elyse received the coveted title in front of a 1400-strong audience of hairdressing talent and celebrity host, Katherine Ryan.

Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, said: "In winning the Trend Image category, Elyse has demonstrated a creative vision and understanding of what makes a winning shot.

"Her work is an inspiration to us all and utterly deserving of this title."
