WITH colder weather getting a grip on the country this week, snow has hit the Yorkshire region.
Higher ground in Scotland and northern England saw snowfall last week, and now it's our turn.
It's been manageable so far, but here’s a reminder of how things could look if the chill takes a turn for the worse.
This great picture, from January 1963 appears in the book West Yorkshire -Thirty Years Gone by author and former Telegraph & Argus newspaper journalist Alan Whitaker.
It was taken at at the top of Church Road, Denholme, by the late Donald Holdsworth, a local amateur photographer.
The bus is stuck outside Denholme Parish Church on its way back to Bradford on service 56. As Alan explains in the book, which was published in 2019, the destination blinds had been changed to Dick Hudson's by local lads who went to look at the bus before it was recovered from its snow drift.
It looks like it's well and truly stuck, requiring help from others to dig it out of the deep drifts. Let’s hope it eventually got to its destination.
