A HOST of former City players and club staff will take on March of the Day to raise funds for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.
Stephen Darby’s ex-Valley Parade teammates Filipe Morais, James Hanson, Gary Jones, Andrew Davies, Tony McMahon, Billy Clarke, Nathan Clarke and Ben Williams are all involved in the charity trek.
Former Bantams fitness chief Nick Allamby and goalkeeping coach Lee Butler will also be walking along with several players who were in the same Bolton side with Darby.
The challenge, organised by Redwood Events, will see a team of walkers take on a continuous 175-mile trek from Valley Parade to Anfield, dedicated to City legend Darby and former Huddersfield striker Marcus Stewart.
Setting off from City on Friday, March 22, the route will see the team stop off at 17 other football stadia on their way to the home of Liverpool, where they aim to cross the finish line on the Sunday.
Darby was diagnosed with the deadly disease in 2018.
A core team including the likes of Chris Kirkland, Dominic Matteo, Stephen’s brother Kev Darby and father-in-law Len Houghton will be joined by separate groups comprising of those who have played alongside Darby and Stewart during their football careers.
A number of City staff members will join a group organised by Morais, after raising over £18,000 for the foundation with the Claret and Amber ramble to Rochdale earlier this year.
The team have set a fundraising goal of £10,000, as part of a wider goal for the whole March of the Day challenge of £50,000.
