FIFTEEN apartments can be created on the upper floors of a Bradford city centre pub.

But measures will have to be put in place to stop noise from the ground floor pub from disturbing residents before the flats are occupied.

Earlier this year a “prior notification” application was submitted to Bradford Council by Sandeep Gupta to convert the upper floors of the Ambassador pub on Sunbridge Road.

An application to re-open long blocked up window spaces in the building, as well as creating new windows, had already been approved.

Now the conversion of the empty upper floors into one-bed apartments has been given the green light by Bradford Council.

Prior notification is when a developer has to inform a Council that they intend to do work that does not require planning permission, such as converting empty spaces in buildings into apartments.

The government recently introduced measures that allowed developers to create flats in empty spaces above shops and other city units into residential without the need for planning permission.

Councils can block such work if there are environmental health or traffic concerns.

Environmental Health officers initially raised concerns that future residents could be disturbed by noise coming from the pub.

But officers have put a condition on the development – an action plan to prevent noise travelling to the upper floors needs to be put in place before anyone starts living in the flats.
