PEOPLE with ideas of how to address the climate crisis in Shipley have been urged to apply for new grants.

The Shipley ‘Green Grants’ scheme will see residents and organisations put in funding bids for community projects that help the environment.

Projects could focus on housing, transport, education and nature - all parts of the Town Council’s Climate Action Plan.

It could be something that improves energy efficiency in homes, cycling skills courses, teaching resources on climate change, or changing a green area where you live.

It is hoped the grant scheme will involve more local people in decision-making around the climate.

The decisions on which projects will receive funding will be voted for by the Shipley community at a public meeting in January.

Bids for each individual project can go up to a maximum of £2,000.

Bidders will be expected to give a three-minute presentation at a public meeting and those in attendance will vote on their first, second and third favourite projects.

More information can be found at www.shipleytowncouncil.gov.uk

The grants follow a Citizens’ Jury on the climate held by Shipley Town Council.

The Green Grants were one of 14 recommendations for how people can deal with the climate crisis at a local level.
