A body which works to improve Bradford city centre has won Team of the Year in the Telegraph and Argus Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Awards.

The award went to Bradford BID - which represents around 600 businesses covering retail, leisure, hospitality and professional services.

The category is sponsored by Bradford Council.

Bradford BID manager Jonny Noble said: “Bradford Business Improvement District (BID) was established in 2018 to drive business performance and delivery by making the city centre a more attractive place to do business and also for visitors to enjoy.

"There are over 330 BIDs in the Country and all are not for profit, with every penny raised via a small levy on business rates invested back into the city centre.

“Bradford BID recently secured a new five year term, taking us through to 2028, during which the city centre will see transformational change with the opening of Bradford Live, Darley Street Market, Transforming Cities and in 2025, the City of Culture year.

"Bradford BID is a very small but dynamic team, who have proven in the first five years what a difference the BID makes to our place.

“We work tirelessly for our member businesses and are absolutely delighted that this has been recognised at the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Awards. We work agilely and flexibly and are able to adapt quickly to the ever changing trading environment facing our businesses, which is what BIDs do best!

“Our standout moments include the much loved Super Soapbox Challenge and our BrickLive trail, which is also really popular.

“Another project we are delivering on is our city centre gift card, which is accepted by 150 city centre venues and has already ringfenced over £86,000 directly into our member businesses.

“We really enjoyed the event in The Broadway and would like to express our thanks to The Broadway team. This event is a definite highlight of the year!”
