A 20-year-old man has been banned from driving for being over the drug driving limit.

A police officer went to the Tesco car park in Skipton at 8.40pm on May 23 after receiving information from a colleague about a car being driven by someone who, it was believed, had been using drugs.

A small amount of cannabis was found in Matthew Peers' car and he tested positive for drugs, Skipton Magistrates' Court heard.

He also told the officer he had taken cannabis two hours before. Peers was arrested and taken to the police station for a blood sample to be taken, which following analysis showed he had seven microgrammes of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - a by-product of cannabis - in one litre of blood. The specified limit is two.

Peers, of Station Road, Wilsden, who admitted drugs driving, had been banned from driving for 12 months in September for a similar offence committed in February, before the incident in Skipton, the court was told.

In mitigation, Ibrar Hussain, said Peers had had some issues with cannabis. He was an apprentice brick-layer and was due to start a roofing apprenticeship.

Peers was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £300, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £120.
