Bradford Forster Square railway station welcomed a rare visitor today when a steam train used the station.

The Northern Belle Private Charter, hauled by historical steam locomotive 34067 Tangmere, made an eye-catching departure from Forster Square on its journey to Preston.

Although some delays occurred, with the train running late at one point, it still managed to arrive at its destination early, reaching Preston at 3.04pm, a cool 23 minutes ahead of schedule.

The steam loco, however, was only due to conduct a portion of the return trip, coming off the train at Carnforth.

This unusual sight brought some bygone nostalgia to the otherwise regular Sunday at Bradford Forster Square station, with the electrified route seldom used for special trains with its essentially being a dead-end.

T&A Camera Club member Ralph Berry, who captured a picture of the loco, said it was an "atmopheric departure".
