A popular country inn located in West Yorkshire has been named among some of Britain’s cosiest pubs to visit this autumn according to The Times.
Shibden Mill Inn set in Halifax featured alongside the likes of The Rose and Crown in Barnard Castle, County Durham and Freemasons at Wiswell, Clitheroe in Lancashire.
“Below are beamed and brilliant places, from the rock’n’roll vibe at a pub on the banks of the Tay in Scotland to an East Sussex pub on a great estate with a hint of the Downtons, where the atmosphere stays so toasty warm you’ll wish winter could always be here,” reports the publisher.
In total, there were 27 venues listed which you can see here.
What did The Times say about Shibden Mill Inn?
The Times commented: “Sally Wainwright’s popular TV series Gentleman Jack helped to put this converted 17th-century corn mill near Halifax on the map.
“Nearby Shibden Hall was the home of Anne Lister, the 19th-century landowner known as Gentleman Jack, who was the inspiration for the show.
“These days, though, drama in the stunning sheep-studded Shibden Valley tends to be mainly on the plate, thanks to the pub's award-winning dishes, such as beef featherblade, smoked potato gratin with beef dripping carrot and toasted hay mousse.
“Rooms are bright boutique numbers and, of course, there is the Anne Lister suite. The actress Suranne Jones, who played Lister in the dramatisation, has even stayed here.”
On Tripadvisor, Shibden Mill is also highly praised, with a current rating of 4.5/5 out of 1,087 reviews.
One visitor said: “The food was brilliant, a good amount and very tasty. The staff were superb, polite attentive, knowledgeable and respectful.
“It was good value for money and I would recommend it to any and everyone.”
Another added: “Super cosy spot with excellent food and friendly staff. Could quite happily while away a Sunday afternoon here and there's a great outdoor space should the weather tempt you to alfresco dining.”
