UNEMPLOYMENT across Bradford rose last month, according to new figures.
The data from the Office for National Statistics shows that there were 22,080 people claiming out-of-work benefits in Bradford in September.
This follows variations in previous months with slight month-on-month falls in June and August, along with slight rises in July and September.
The September figure equates to a rise of 0.7 percent or 160 claimants on the previous month.
This means a claimant count rate is 6.5 per cent, which compares to a rate of 4.0 regionally and 3.7 per cent nationally.
A year ago, the number of people on out-of-work benefits was 21,625, so the latest figure indicates an annual rise of 2.1 per cent.
Jobcentres in the district are hosting a range of activities including jobs fairs aimed at supporting claimants into work.
Bal Singh, employer account manager for Bradford and Keighley said: “Tailored support from work coaches is vital so jobseekers are able to reach their full potential.
“By unlocking the skills and abilities of individuals, people can improve their employment prospects, which in turn helps achieve the Government’s priority to grow the economy.
“Support is available to everyone whether they are leaving education, 50 Plus, have a health condition or progress in work.”
