CONVERSATIONS and music flowed in a special homage to women at one of Bradford’s Black History Month events.

Black History Month has been observed since 1987, shining a spotlight on Black voices and experiences past, present and future.

Audiences gathered at SORM Studios for a night of live music and DJ sets, poetry, food and much more.

The event was attended by people from all backgrounds - sparking new conversations, friendships, and knowledge.

It hoped to celebrate the sisters and matriarchs of the Black community and their inspiring stories.

Host Jerry Crawford said: “I don’t think women get as much praise as they should do. There’s a lot of things they don’t get noticed for. We’re paying homage to the nurses, bus conductors, and whoever else has contributed. We’re thankful for what they’ve done.

“We take it for granted sometimes. There was some stories being told for instance stories about women when they first came to England, what they’d had to go through and to where they are now, friends they’ve made.

“It’s all about education at the end of the day.

“It’s definitely breaking down barriers."

Performers at the event on Friday (October 20) included Rachel Modest, Megan Swan, K.G, Jahzara Ruby Mckintosh, DJ Mercy, SORM DJs, and MP.
