A BRADFORD man has spoken of his experience after a plane landed and veered off the runaway in wet weather at Leeds Bradford Airport this afternoon.
In a statement earlier today, Leeds Bradford Airport confirmed that "TUI flight TOM3551 arriving from Corfu at LBA this afternoon had moved off the runway whilst landing".
The airport has now confirmed that no one was injured in the landing.
A spokesperson for Leeds Bradford Airport said: “We can confirm there are no reported injuries from this incident and that all passengers have now safely disembarked the aircraft.
"The airport is now closed. We are working with the airline, relevant operations teams and emergency authorities to resolve this situation and return services safely as quickly as possible.
"We ask passengers to contact their airline to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport.”
However, the incident left "screaming" passengers "shaken" by the ordeal.
During the incident, Bradford man Garry Stockdill, whose brother Keith was on the plane, said: "They were landing at Leeds-Bradford Airport and they overshot the runway. The plane is now on the grass. My brother said there was mud all over the wing."
He added: "They are all okay. Just very shaken up. People were screaming. The fire service are trying to find a way to get them off the plane."
Bradford man Keith Stockdill has now spoken to the T&A to give his first-hand account of the incident.
Describing the lead-up to the plane landing, Keith Stockdill, who was a passenger on the plane, said: "There was no announcement from the pilot. I don't think he had time. The landing seemed normal at first but seemed just not to stop.
“We were on plane for about an hour. The fire service fitted stairs to the rear and we were taken off one row at a time. We were on the back row so first to get off.
Although he said it was scary, he added that many passengers kept their nerve and were calm.
But he added: “It was not a nice experience.”
“We’re fine, just on the way home now. We left without luggage. They said the airline will be in touch.”
