A PRIME suspect will emerge in the next episode of an ITV drama about the five-year hunt for serial killer Peter Sutcliffe.
The Long Shadow tells the story of one of the country's biggest murder investigations.
Bradford-born Sutcliffe murdered 13 women and tried to kill seven others from 1975 to 1980.
Episode four of The Long Shadow sees another woman survive an attack.
A taxi driver from Leeds, who has dark curly hair and a beard, emerges as a key suspect in the murder probe - and detectives hope they are in with a chance of finding their man.
But does the evidence stand up?
Reviewing the latest episode, The Radio Times said: "Prior knowledge of the Sutcliffe case isn't an absolute requirement when it comes to understanding this terrific true-crime drama.
"But the ability to at least recognise his distinctive facial features will be of benefit, particularly this week, as a fair amount of screen time is spent in the company of a cabbie with dark curly hair and a beard whose work has taken him to many of the local areas where bodies have been discovered.
"When he hits the radar of the increasingly exasperated investigating officer George Oldfield (David Morrissey), this taxi man finds himself under surveillance and then under arrest.
"The case appears clean cut as he's even associated with prostitutes in the neighbourhood.
"But there are still three episodes to go following this one - so things may not prove as straightforward as they first seem."
The last episode of The Long Shadow focused on the investigation spreading into Bradford after the murder of another woman.
Viewers of The Long Shadow have praised the ITV drama for "giving a voice" to Sutcliffe's victims.
Writing on X, formerly Twitter, one person said: "The Long Shadow gives a voice to the women who were tragically taken by a horrible man.
"It also highlights how badly handled the whole case was and the attitude towards woman that still sticks to this day."
Another said: 'The Long Shadow isn't about Sutcliffe, it's about his victims."
Sutcliffe died aged 74 in 2020 after reportedly refusing treatment for coronavirus.
The murderer, who was serving a whole life term, was an inmate of the maximum security Frankland jail and died at the nearby University Hospital of North Durham.
The Long Shadow continues on ITV at 9pm on Monday. It is also available in full on ITVX.
