LATEST NEWS: MP urges government crackdown on knife crime after fatal stabbing
A MAN has died and another is in a serious condition following a stabbing in a town centre.
Police were called to Commercial Street in Halifax in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Another man was also taken to hospital with stab wounds.
A significant police scene is in place in the town centre while investigators conduct specialist searches and forensic enquiries.
A spokesperson for the force said: "A scene is in place in Halifax town centre after a serious incident in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, October 1).
"Police were called at 3.48am to Commercial Street, Halifax, to reports that three men had been assaulted.
"All three men were taken to hospital with stab wounds.
"One of the men passed away at hospital, with another described as being in a critical condition,
"The third man has received treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.
"There is a significant police scene in place in the town centre while police conduct specialist searches and forensic enquiries.
"The public and local businesses are thanked for their patience at this time.
"The investigation is in its very early stages and further information will be released in due course."
