PLANS have been lodged to make changes at the IKEA store in Birstall including adding new canopies and signage and altering the car park.
The applications have been submitted to Kirklees Council planners and involve replacing the existing signs – with the main one moved up the building to be visible from the M62.
In addition, the designs show new flagpoles with colourful flags at the corner of the multi-storey car park and blue cladding removed from the warehouse building.
The word ‘home furnishings’ would also be added below one of the IKEA signs and the entrance to the store would be altered and a canopy with sedum roof added.
The application states: “IKEA are undertaking a national programme of store improvements, which is aimed at maintaining a dynamic shopping offer, retaining customers and reinforcing the iconic IKEA brand.”
An initial target date for planners to make a decision is the beginning of November.
