A TOTAL of eight fire crews from across the district helped tackle a blaze at a historic mill on Monday night. 

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) attended the fire at Dalton Mills in Keighley, last night and the road was closed off to the public. 

In a new update from WYFRS, a spokesperson said two crews - Fairweather Green and Keighley - remain at the scene but no active firefighting is taking place.

The road has also reopened.

They added that no cause has yet been ascertained fire and investigators will need to carry out their checks. 

The fire service reported 25 per cent of the building was involved in the fire, with three floors impacted.

By midnight, only three pumps remained at the scene and firefighters were said to have continued tackling the fire through the night. 

On Monday, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Building fire, make pumps eights and one Aerial appliance, this is a three storey building measuring approx., 125m by 25m, 25per cent involved in fire affecting three of the floors.

"Three sectors are in use and crews are using 1 breathing apparatus, one hose reel and two large jets to extinguish the fire."

"Incident reduced to three pumps at midnight.

"Firefighting will continue through the night."
