A NUMBER of Bradford city centre roads are closed due to significant ongoing roadworks and a host of bus services will be impacted over the coming months.

The city is undergoing a £43.5 million transformation and these works form part of that process, with Bradford Council releasing details of an Experimental Order in the last week.

This impacts at least 12 city centre streets and the works will support the Bradford City Centre Walking and Cycling Improvements Schemes.

The aims of those projects are to reshape Bradford city centre by improving walking and cycling routes, removing traffic from some roads, and introducing new green outdoor spaces for people to enjoy.

The closures have had a knock-on impact on bus services that often frequent Bradford city centre and one road closure is set to be in place until the start of next year.

This is on Sunbridge Road and Princes Way, between their junctions with Barry Street and Godwin Street, and will last until January 24, 2024, according to Metro.

The transport company said bus services 615, 616, 619, 636 and 637 are being impacted by this.

Metro's website said: "Services 636, 637 will divert from Listerhills Road, straight across at the traffic lights - Lower Grattan Road - R Sunbridge Road - L Barry Street - R Westgate & Godwin Street to normal route."

Meanwhile Little Horton Lane - another road impacted by the huge improvement project will be closed until November 17, according to Metro.

This is impacting First West Yorkshire's 613, 614, 640, 641, 643, 644, and TLC Bus services.

Here are the diversion details:

  • Services 613 & 614 towards Buttershaw will divert via Nelson Street, Croft Street, Senior Way, Chester Street and Morley Street.
  • Services 613 & 614 towards Bradford will divert via Morley Street, Chester Street, Senior Way, Manchester Road and Hall Ings.
  • Services 640 & 641 towards Buttershaw will divert via Nelson Street, Croft Street, Senior Way and Little Horton Lane.
  • Services 640 & 641 towards Bradford will divert via Senior Way and Manchester Road.
  • Services 643 & 644 will divert via Senior Way, Croft Street and Vicar Lane

Two other routes outside the city centre also have roadworks underway currently.

These are Thornton Road and Horton Park Avenue.

Bus services 615, 616 and 619 are being affected by the works on Thornton Road and all will divert via Sunbridge Road "until further notice", according to Metro.

Metro's website said Horton Park Avenue is closed for the roadworks "until further notice".

First West Yorkshire's 613 and 614 bus services are operating a normal route to Easby, when heading towards Buttershaw, and then divert via Laisterlidge Lane and Great Horton Road.

They will divert via Horton Park Avenue when running towards Bradford.

There are some changes to the stands people will catch buses from at Bradford Interchange too, due to ongoing works there, and this will last until early 2024.

The details of this are as follows:

  • 645 from stand B
  • 681, 682 from stand H
  • 686, 687, 688 from stand M
