PUPILS at one secondary school have been learning how to budget, save and spend wisely with special lessons from staff at Yorkshire Building Society.
Students at BBG Academy in Birkenshaw took part in the age-appropriate Money Minds lessons which will help prepare them for the world of work.
A total of 20 staff from the organisation’s headquarters in Leeds and Bradford swapped the office for the classroom to mark UK Savings Week.
Money Minds is a free financial education programme designed by YBS that consists of a series of activities and projects designed to promote discussion and share learning.
Nik Deavall said: “Understanding how to budget and save are vital life skills, so helping the next generation of savers and spenders understand more about managing their money is a real privilege.
“It is great to hear how much the children learned during the sessions – and how much fun they, and our colleagues, had too.”
Ian Aindow, Assistant Headteacher at BBG Academy said: “Students have been supported with understanding the finer points of balancing budgets and the realities of unrealistic financial expectations.
“Our students have really enjoyed these sessions and we look forward to our continued work with YBS volunteers.”
