A NUMBER of crews were called to a fire in a high-rise building in West Yorkshire.

Crews from from five West Yorkshire fire stations were called at 6.43pm yesterday (Sunday) to a blaze in the kitchen of a high-rise complex at Albion Court in Halifax.

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire service control received a call advising that a kitchen was on fire in a high-rise premise.

"Appliances from Halifax, Illingworth, Rastrick, Odsal and Huddersfield's aerial were mobilised to the incident.

"On arrival, the crews dealt with a kitchen fire using two breathing apparatus and a large jet.

"Positive pressure ventilation was used to clear smoke from the flat.

"Heat detector alarm was sounding but working smoke alarms were not sounding due to the kitchen door being closed."
