Yorkshire Water has apologised for delays on Bradford Road, Oakenshaw, after a burst water main.
Due to the size of the main, there has been consequential damage to the road surface.
Repair work is ongoing and reinstatement of the road is required before it can be safely reopened.
Manned, two-way traffic lights will be in place for about two days to allow the work to be carried out safely.
A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and we are working quickly to complete the repairs safely.
"The road is open under two-way traffic lights to allow traffic to flow and reduce disruption as much as possible.”
It is the second time this year that Bradford Road in Oakenshaw has been hit by serious roadworks after Yorkshire Water had to carry out works there in February.
