A SUPERFAN says he is honoured to continue his love affair with a cult 1980s movie series after building a second replica car which will promote a musical version in the USA.
Mike Hutchinson has built his second life-sized replica of a DeLorean as featured in the 1980s movie trilogy Back To The Future, with help from his father Peter Hutchinson, in his garage at his East Morton home.
The iconic vehicle, which took him 10 weeks to build, will become the official vehicle to promote the Back to the Future Musical which opened on Broadway in New York last month.
The car, which has been transported over to the USA, will help promote the musical on a host of TV shows and other public appearances.
But it's not the first time Mike has built a replica of the DeLorean.
He also spent about £20,000 turning his car into a replica of the DeLorean used by Marty McFly in the cult classic.
The work, in 2015, took him two years to complete and the conversion includes castings from the original car which is in Universal Studios in Hollywood.
The 2023 version of the DeLorean was built in partnership with Coulombe Enterprises, based in Florida. He also received help with parts from Riddlesden-based GM Engineering.
Mike, 45, said: “It was an absolute honour to build the car. Anyone who sees the car is gobsmacked on the detail on it.
“It included hundreds and hundreds of hours of research. It was a case of building it from scratch. It was a quick process to build it. It took around 10 weeks.
“This one is a lot more detailed. There were things in 2015 that were not accurate now.
“Things about building the DeLorean have moved on from 2015, online. Things were very underground then. There’s a community now building things. It was slightly more easy to build it.
“The car is going all around the world.
“The special thing for is that it is going from East Morton to Broadway in New York.”
Mike has previously helped build a replica of the Time Travel Train, alongside Ian Robinson, as featured in the third installment of the popular film franchise starring Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd.
The steam train was made famous by Lloyd’s character, Doc Brown, in the final film of the Sci-Fi trilogy released in 1990.
Mike is also the owner of Back to the 1980s Event & Prop Hire which hold a number of events across the UK.
