A WOMAN faces a bill of more than £470 for failing to show a railcard after buying a cheaper ticket between Manchester and Bradford.
Jolenda Raynor, 27, of Abbey Hey Drive, Abbey Hey, Manchester, faced one charge of travelling on the railway without paying a fare.
She travelled between Manchester Victoria and Bradford Interchange without paying the £15.80 fare, on March 2 this year.
The court documents state that during the journey, she offered up an Advance Single ticket between the stations that had been discounted with a 16-25 Railcard.
When requested, Raynor was unable to produce the accompanying Railcard and admitted to not having one.
A letter was sent to Raynor requesting an explanation and, as there was no response, a Fixed Penalty Notice was then sent, which remains unpaid.
Raynor was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £88 victim surcharge and £15.80 in compensation, which totalled £473.80.
Raynor was found guilty of the offence and sentenced in her absence at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on August 21, 2023.
