BRADFORD Council has sent out almost 129,000 penalty fines to drivers using non-compliant vehicles in the Clean Air Zone (CAZ).

The number was revealed through a Freedom of Information request made by the T&A to Bradford Council.

Overall, the CAZ has generated £8,797,980.14 through people paying the charge and through penalty charges.

The total amount of money paid for Penalty Charge Notices from the date the zone was implemented (September 26) up to August 30 is £5,145,109.00.

There have been a total of 128,963 penalty charge notices sent out since the start of the zone for non-payment of charges.

Drivers may receive a £120 penalty charge plus the road user charge if the daily charge for a non-compliant vehicle has not been paid within the payment window.

Meanwhile, the FOI showed the amount generated from vehicles charged to access the CAZ has now hit £3,652,871.14.

Of this amount, £650,276 was paid to the Government as part of a central service charge.

Under the CAZ scheme, £2 from every vehicle charged to access the Bradford zone goes towards the Government’s ‘Drive in a Clean Air Zone’ service, run by the DVLA.

Once the Government takes its portion, the Council uses CAZ funds on schemes which contribute to improving air quality.
