WORK to repair shops and flats that were badly damaged when a police car crashed into them have been approved.
In February two police cars were involved in a crash that saw a row of businesses on Keighley Road, Frizinghall, badly damaged.
The flats above the units also had to be evacuated.
Among the businesses that were damaged were a clothing store, an accountancy firm, and a bathroom store.
At the time police said the two vehicles involved in the crash were "en route to support a pursuit of a vehicle stolen in a burglary".
The buildings have been fenced off since the crash, and earlier this summer a planning application to restore the shopfronts was submitted by Kevin Taylor.
It said the work would once again make the buildings structurally sound and bring business units on a busy street back into use.
The application has been approved this week.
Planners said: “The existing shop fronts have suffered significant damage and were partially demolished following a vehicle collision.
"This proposal is to rebuild the shop fronts to make the properties structurally sound and useable premises again.
“The proposal will help to bring the premises back into viable use which will improve the appearance of the street and enhance the amenities within this local centre.”
