A BRADFORD care home has been taken out of special measures after inspectors from the watchdog found improvements had been made.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Bierley Court, in Bierley, in June to reinspect the site after it had fallen to the lowest rating in January.
The result saw them rate the home, which is run by Handsale Limited, as requires improvement – a step up from the earlier inadequate rating.
In the latest report the inspector said that “significant improvements” had been made since the last inspection.
They added that “People felt safe in the service.
“Safeguarding events, accidents and incidents were reported, recorded and acted upon appropriately. Risks to people were assessed and managed well by staff.
“Medicines were managed safely, although some aspects of record keeping needed to improve.
"There were enough staff to meet people's needs and keep them safe. Staff received the training and support they required to carry out their roles. Robust recruitment processes were in place.”
In addition, the report highlighted that cleanliness had improved, with deep cleans and an efficient housekeeping team. Safe infection prevention and control procedures were also followed.
“People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice,” it added.
It did add that some areas required redecoration and refurbishment and that the provider had plans in place to address this in the near future.
Inspectors went on to say: “People and relatives were happy with the care provided and were involved in decisions about care. People and relatives praised the staff for their kindness and compassion. We saw staff treated people with respect and maintained their privacy and dignity.”
Rishi Sodha, care director for the Handsale Care Group, said: “We're thrilled that Bierley Court’s recent CQC inspection ratings reflect the hard work and dedication of our staff and stakeholders over recent months.
"We are confident that this is the first step on a promising path towards elevating Bierley Court to providing outstanding care in the Bradford area.
“Our thanks go to our dedicated care, senior, and management teams who’ve led this transformation, supported by Stuart Tyrer from the Caring Community Hub, our external stakeholders and the families of those we care for.
"We're committed to sustainable, high-quality care outcomes through innovation and shared values.”
Mr Tyrer said that "all involved" are committed to elevating residents' quality of life and "promising steps" have been taken to realise this.
