A 10-year-old Bradford district girl, whose dad served in the British Army, is aiming to conquer Mount Snowdon next month to raise money for an important charity.
Alice Flint-Johnson, of Cullingworth, will be attempting the challenge for the charity Little Troopers, which supports service children, on Saturday, September 9.
Alice’s dad Martin served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and her grandparents both served in the Royal Air Force.
As a result, Martin lived in four countries and attended seven primary schools during his childhood.
Martin then joined the army when he was 17, leaving in 1994 due to injury.
Martin later attended The University of Bradford, training in Social Care, and is now part of a pilot project funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
The project supports the Armed Forces community admitted into Keighley's Airedale Hospital.
More recently, Martin has been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
He manages this by getting out in his camper van for weekends away, with Alice at his side joining him on their many adventures.
The pair have developed a love for the great outdoors and its therapeutic benefits.
Alice has been out preparing for the challenge by hill walking in Snowdonia and at the Yorkshire Dales.
Little Troopers is a charity founded by British Army veteran, Louise Fetigan, in 2011.
The charity is open to all children who have a parent serving in the British Armed Forces, of which there are estimated to be more than 100,000 children across the force’s community.
Funds raised from the Snowdon trek will go towards Little Troopers resources, initiatives, and events to support military children at home and in school.
Louise said: "We are so grateful to all our Snowdon fundraisers, but especially to children like Alice who are taking on a huge personal challenge.
"Being a military child is a unique experience and it is wonderful to see children who have benefited from our charity choosing to raise money to support other little troopers just like them.”
More than 50 fundraisers will gather in Wales to climb Britain’s second-highest mountain for Little Troopers.
