A WOMAN has been fined after she was caught dodging rail fare on her journey to Manchester.
Shina Muzaffar, 23 of Morden Street, Liverpool, was travelling between Bradford Interchange and Manchester Victoria on February 22, 2023.
The court record states that when asked to produce a ticket she told the conductor that she had purchased the wrong ticket but was unable to buy a new one on the app.
The one she held was an Advance Single between Manchester Victoria and Bradford Interchange with a 16-25 rail card discount for the 2.21pm departure.
Whilst her details were being obtained to issue an unpaid fares notice, Muzaffar asked how much it would be with her 16-25 rail card.
At this point she said that her phone had died and she would charge it at Manchester - she was told that there were charging points on the train.
When the railcard was produced the name on the rail card was different Muzaffar admitted it was her sister's. Her details were obtained and she was advised the facts would be reported.
A Fixed Penalty Notice was then sent, which remains unpaid.
At Kirklees Magistrate’s Court, she was fined £220 and ordered to pay £15.80 compensation, a surcharge of £88, and costs of £150
