A NEW notice board has been unveiled in the churchyard of a former Bradford district church.
The new notice board was officially opened by Astrid Hansen, a local historian of the village of Wilsden, in the closed churchyard of the original St Matthew’s Church, consecrated by The Archbishop of York in 1826.
The original church stopped services in 1957 when the building was deemed to be unsafe and unviable to maintain. It was therefore demolished in 1962.
The present open churchyard is maintained by Wilsden Parish Council – Green Spaces committee and developed as a peaceful green area where wildflowers are encouraged to grow.
The notice board was unveiled by Astrid with key volunteers who have developed the churchyard, Sue Downs, Mary Holland and Stuart Robinson, all in attendance.
