POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a serious crash.

It happened on the A59 and closed the road at the Skibeden roundabout towards Bolton Abbey. Roads in the area have now reopened.

North Yorkshire Polcie said the collision happened at around 7am and involved a single motorcycle and one rider.

No other vehicles were involved. Earlier today, police warned that the road would be closed for some time and urged motorists to take alternative routes.

"Thanks to motorists for their patience while officers carried out their enquiries," a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said. 

Officers are requesting anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward, especially those with dashcam footage to help with the investigation.
