PARKING charges are set to rise at Bradford Council-run car parks across the district.
The changes will come into effect on September 1 this year.
One reason given for the hike in charges is to “discourage the excessive use of vehicles within populated areas”.
A ‘statement of reason’ for the proposal says: “The existing off street parking places at Vicar Lane, Burnett Street, Radwell Drive Ferncliffe Road, Wellington Street, Waterloo, Bingley Arts Centre, Queen Street, Main Street, Victoria Street, Gas Street, Museum, Bronte Village, Caroline Street and Exhibition Road are currently operated by the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council as pay and display car parks.
“The Council proposes to increase the current charges. The proposed order will allow enforcement of the revised pay and display charges.
“The Council considers it expedient to make this order to create a consistent approach to parking charges across the district; to discourage excessive use of vehicles within populated areas.”

What has Bradford Council said?
A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “Parking charges play an essential role in the careful management of our town and city centres where there is high demand for parking space. They encourage a healthy turnover of vehicles and shoppers to support local businesses.
“The charges are also a source of income to help pay for the upkeep of our car parks.
“These car parking charges will be in line with charges by other neighbouring authorities.”
The T&A understands this was initially posted on the Bradford Council website under the consultation section, but is actually a public notice informing people of the new changes that will come into force on September 1.
