PEOPLE are being urged to plan ahead for their healthcare if possible, ahead of strike action by doctors which begins later this week.

Junior doctors will walk out in five days of action from Friday, August 11 to Tuesday, August 15, in a dispute over pay.

This will be followed later in the month by two days of action by consultants on August 24 and 25.

The NHS in West Yorkshire said there is likely to be a significant impact on services and disruption to appointments.

Dr James Thomas, medical director for the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, said: “The safety and care of people who use our services is our highest priority, and it is important that people continue to use our services when they need them.

“NHS teams across West Yorkshire will be working throughout the strike period to keep people safe and well, but services will be affected.”

Those taking regular medication are urged to order and collect it before the planned strikes.

People are also being advised to take care going any DIY or physical activities to help avoid a visit to A&E where possible.

For those needing medical help, 111.nhs.uk or calling 111, is available to get advice about the most appropriate treatment option.
